TOLEDO, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Owens Corning (NYSE: OC) has introduced the first and only formaldehyde-free perimeter fire containment system available in North America. This advanced solution made with Thermafiber® Firespan® and Safing™ mineral wool insulation delivers tested and proven fire resistance performance to help commercial architects, specifiers and contractors build safer and energy-efficient buildings.
Available for specifications now and in-market later this year, the system expands the portfolio of formaldehyde-free Thermafiber® mineral wool solutions.
“As a pioneer in fire safety, we know the perimeter in a commercial structure is one of the most complex areas where fire can spread and where building professionals face high-stakes design scenarios,” said Carmelo Carrubba, Owens Corning’s insulation strategic marketing vice president.
“Architects and building owners are increasingly demanding formaldehyde-free solutions. The introduction of the first formaldehyde-free perimeter fire containment system reflects our commitment to continuously invest in building science knowledge and technical resources that advance the commercial building industry.”
Based on its proven fire performance, Thermafiber® mineral wool insulation products have been installed in eight of the 20 tallest buildings in the world including the record-breaking Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, U.A.E. In addition to the new formaldehyde-free offerings, Thermafiber® also contributes to LEED® credits for specific commercial and residential applications and has certification for minimum 70 percent recycled content by the ICC-ES.
Owens Corning also provides expert resources through its Thermafiber Insolutions® technical team. Through this resource, commercial architects, specifiers, curtain wall manufacturers, and contractors can collaborate with technical experts to gain technical assistance including CAD drawings, engineering judgments, LEED® credit information and product recommendations.
