The GCCA and OSHA formally renewed their Alliance at the Cold Chain Policy Forum in 2019. Since its inception in 2010, the Alliance, which includes the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR) and the Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA), has developed and disseminated resources to promote safety across the cold chain. These efforts have included the creation of ammonia safety posters, as well as delivery of on-line and in-person training of OSHA personnel on industrial refrigeration systems. In 2020, the Alliance is looking to build on these accomplishments to enhance safety across the cold chain.

Plans are underway to offer additional web-based training for OSHA personnel, bringing the total number of inspectors trained through the Alliance to over 200. In addition, Alliance team members are working with OSHA to update the Ammonia Refrigeration eTool, which resides on the OSHA website as resource for industry.

The Alliance is also planning engagement opportunities between OSHA and industry at multiple events in 2020 including GCCA’s Cold Chain Conference and Expo, the IIAR Conference and the RETA Conference. As the Alliance moves forward in 2020, GCCA and its partners will continue to strengthen relationships with OSHA at national, regional and local levels, while facilitating information exchange and training for representatives from industry and the agency.
